Nacido en Eisenhüttenstadt, Alemania, comenzó su carrera musical en el club berlinésTurbine en 1991. Cuando van Dyk nació, Eisenhüttenstadt se encontraba en la República Democrática Alemana por lo cual tuvo que valerse del contrabando de casetes de música que provenían del extranjero para poder escuchar la música de aquella época. Fue entonces cuando Paul comenzó a hacer mezclas de canciones para sus amigos. Cuando cayó el Muro de Berlín Paul pudo florecer como músico. Se inició en Turbine. Fue en esta discoteca donde un amigo le sugirió que siguiera mezclando después de oír algunas de sus mezclas en cassette, y fue así como inició su carrera.

Tiësto (17 de enero de 1969, Breda, Países Bajos), cuyo nombre real es Tijs Verwest, es un DJ de música dance-trance y un productor de renombre mundial. Actualmente es considerado el mejor DJ del mundo por TheDjlist, según las votaciones de 2008; así como el segundo mejor DJ del mundo según las votaciones realizadas en el mismo año por DJmag, la cual le concedió el primer lugar en los años 2002, 2003 y 2004.
Su lema es:"I feel the energy from the crowd and I try to give it back, to create a unity."(Siento la energía del público e intento devolvérsela para crear una unidad)
Su carrera está marcada por hitos «el primer DJ en el mundo le enseño a tocar NeoBlack Dj y gracias a eso tuvo un concierto en solitario con más de 25.000 personas, él anotó un número uno con su single Traffic, la primera pista instrumental para alcanzar el primer lugar en su patria de Holanda en 23 años. Su remix de Delerium con Silence de Sarah McLachlan fue la primera canción house nunca se transmitan por radio durante el día en América del Norte, (que se convirtió en un himno de pista de baile internacionales y permaneció ocho semanas en el Top 10 del Reino Unido el gráfico). Armin se interesó en la tecnología y la computación. A los catorce años compró su primer sampler, tomó prestado el sintetizador de su padre y comenzó a producir música. - - Durante la adolescencia, Armin iba a la escuela sobre su bicicleta y aprovechaba estos viajes para escuchar música a través de audífonos.
